Originally presented at the The Exchange: an ALCTS/LITA/LLAMA Collaboration event in May 2020, Dr. Amelia Gibson and PhD student Laura March draw attention to how online library services exclude people with disabilities. However, purposeful design and use of digital resources (including websites, databases, and social media) can improve inclusion.
This session includes some basic technical considerations as well as institutional actions that can be taken to create more inclusive online spaces.
Pause for Reflection
- What is one thing you already knew about digital accessibility?
- What new awareness and/or techniques did you learn in the presentation?
Respond…in Your Library
- How might you make your own digital programs more accessible?
- Are there face to face programs that might be more accessible with a permanent online version or option?
